The powerful filly took full advantage of a heady ride by jockey Brad Parnham as she dashed to the lead at the top of the Ascot straight before comfortably holding out the challenge of race favourite Ellicazoom (ridden by Parnham's brother Steven and trained by father Neville) by a length at the winning post.
The victory was a tactical triumph for Parnham and trainer Daniel Morton who
had cooked up the winning formula before the race."I thought the only way to beat my dad's horse was to put my one into the race early," explained Parnham.
"We had to give his horse something to chase which was a bit of a risk but it paid off in the end.
"I've got this filly down as an Oaks horse as she is a real big, nice type who will grow into an even better horse next prep."
Morton was full of praise for the ride after Parnham had followed their pre-race tactics perfectly.
"We discussed a fair few things before the race but in the end I just said to Brad to come out normal and then weigh up your options," noted Morton.
"We had an inkling there would be some good speed to follow which worked out well.
"I told him not to die wondering as she will run a good mile out, make them chase you.
"She's a classic filly. I wasn't joking when I said I haven't put a saddle on a nicer filly."
Retained to race by her breeders, Samovare is from More Than Ready (USA) mare Sambar, whose grand-dam is a half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Dark Eclipse.
She became Savabeel's 32nd Group winner and 54thindividual stakes winner as his most successful New Zealand son, Kawi, looks to
provide further Australian Group One success for his illustrious father when he
tackles the Gr. 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot this Saturday. – NZ Racing Desk
