Star Witness Sprinter Returns to Form

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 11
Lightly raced Star Witness four year-old Firsthand made it three wins from four starts when scoring at Canterbury on Friday night.

Prepared by Hawkes Racing, Firsthand won his first two starts earlier this year and was then fifth when resuming from a spell last month.

Firsthand as a yearlingMuch fitter this time around, he posted a long neck win under 59.5 kg over 1100 metres and looks to have more wins in store over the summer.

A $125,000 Inglis Easter Session II purchase for his trainer from the Goodwood Farm draft, Firsthand is a half-brother to stakes-placed Bale Star and Public Holiday being one of seven winners from Thanskgiving.

A placed daughter of Epsom Derby winner Generous (IRE), Thanksgiving comes from the Great Klaire branch of the Eight Carat family that has produced Group I winners Bonanova, Fraternity and Telesto.

Thanksgiving has been married to Star Witness in recent years and has been back to him every year since Firsthand was born.
