The instantly recognised racing colours of Mr Bob Peters were carried to an
impressive debut victory when Awaken lined-up for her first public appearance
and duly landed a Bunbury maiden event by a very comfortable four-length
winning margin on Thursday.
A three-year-old daughter of Emirates Park shuttle stallion Dream Ahead (USA),
Awaken went in to the contest as a heavily backed $2.50 favourite and didn't
give her supporters a moment of concern.
Ridden just off the pace in the 1420m assignment, the Grant & Alana
Williams-trained filly was eased in to the open at the top of the home straight
and had the race under her control in a matter of strides.
The final stages of the contest saw the untapped daughter of Dream Ahead given
a very easy time, coasting to the line four lengths clear under a strong hold.
Awaken's finishing 600m sectional time of 35.22s was only bettered by one other
winner on the day and would have proven to be considerably sharper if ridden
out to the line.
A member of Dream Ahead's first foal-crop in Australia, Awaken was bred by
Peters Investments P/L from the Redoute's Choice mare Mystical Hour.
A winner of four races from just 11 career starts, Mystical Hour is a great
grand-daughter of the celebrated broodmare Princess Tracy and therefore hails
from a prodigious family boasting a plethora of top-line international
performers, including Typhoon Tracey (Aust. Horse of the Year), Tracey's
Element, Suntagonal, Master of Design, Danasinga etc etc.
Awaken is the latest exciting prospect to emerge from Dream Ahead's first-crop
to race in Australia.
Still only spring three-year-olds, other members of this contingent include
this season's Melbourne stakes winner Ken's Dream, as well as the stakes
performed First Dream, Beyond the Dream and Dreams Aplenty.
Awaken is actually bred on almost identical lines as the Group 2-placed winner
Dreams Aplenty, both being from daughters of Redoute's Choice in turn produced
by Zabeel mares.
The timing of Awaken's debut success could not have been better for Peters, the
biggest single supporter of the Western Australia Turf Club's prestigious
summer carnival.
Though the Dream Ahead filly doesn't hold any black-type race nominations at
present, she won in the manner of a three-year-old likely to add to the
breeder-owner's unparalleled level of Perth feature race success.
