Luskin
Park and Aston Bloodstock have been making news this spring with their Group I
colt Flying Artie, who was sold in a multi-million dollar stud deal, but it was
promising gelding Mr Manhattan that had them back in the winner's circle at
Canterbury last Saturday along with a huge team of delighted co-owners.
A five year-old son of Manhattan Rain prepared by Joe Pride, Mr Manhattan (image Steve Hart) has put
together quite an imposing record in his 11 starts to date.
The handsome chestnut lugged 60.5 kg to victory over 1100 metres as favourite,
racking up his sixth win with prizemoney topping $225,000.
Bred by Luskin Park and Aston Bloodstock, Mr Manhattan was passed in shy of his
$100,000 reserve when consigned to Inglis Easter by Luskin Park and runs for a
big and diverse syndicate that includes his breeders Paul Whelan and Wilf Mula.
"He has so many owners and they were just so happy to see him win last
Saturday," Paul Whelan reflected.
"Some were there with children and grand-children, so it was a great day.
"Joe thinks he's ready for Black Type races so the Listed Starlight Stakes (Rosehill,
December 3 over 1100m) is the race he's looking towards."
Stakes-winner Dublin Lass and Mr Manhattan are the first and second foals of
lightly raced Elusive Quality (USA) mare Fashion Police, whose third foal is
Group III placed three year-old Crafty Cop.
Off to a great start with her stud career, Fashion Police is a grand-daughter
of Group II winner Fine Recipe from the family of Group I VATC Blue Diamond
winner Midnight Fever and Group I VRC Australian Guineas winner Rock Classic,
who was also bred and sold by Luskin Park.
Fashion Police has a yearling filly by Snitzel that will be headed to the sales
next year and a filly foal this spring by Redoute's Choice.
She recently tested positive again to Redoute's Choice, so stakes success for
Mr Manhattan would be a nice update for the family given his sire Manhattan
Rain is a half-brother to Redoute's Choice.
