Complications
following surgery for colic have claimed the life of 16 year-old Glamour Puss,
the sprint queen of the 2005 Flemington Carnival when she claimed the Group I
VRC Salinger Stakes (1200m) on Derby Day and then the Group II VRC The Age
Classic (1200m) on the final day.
"She was a wonderful mare for the stud," Waikato Stud principal Mark Chittick
said.
"Not only did she win two Group Ones and five black type races in Australia for
Danny O'Brien, she produced a foal each and every year she retired with all to
race winning, including the two stakes performers Beckham and Ngarimu."
A daughter of renowned shuttle sire Tale of the Cat (USA), Glamour Puss(pictured Steve Hart) has
been buried alongside Waikato Stud's champion sire O'Reilly with whom she had
four of her nine foals.
Lindsay Park Racing bought an Ocean Park colt from Glamour Puss at the NZB
Premier Yearling Sale this year for $130,000 that has been named Ocean Class and
her current yearling is a filly by O'Reilly.
