Triple
Group I winner Lucia Valentina has been retired and will be covered by champion
sire Fastnet Rock later this month.
Her trainer Kris Lees confirmed she had suffered a leg injury bringing about the
decision to end her racing career which has netted owner Lib Petagna over
$4million in prizemoney - not a bad result for a yearling purchased from the NZB Premier Yearling Sale for just $60,000 by Bruce Perry Bloodstock.
"Obviously, it's very disappointing, but that's
racing," Lees said.
"Lucia Valentina has been a wonderful mare to us. Whilst the injury is serious
enough not to race her again, it won't affect her career at stud."
By champion New Zealand sire Savabeel from a daughter of Montjeu (IRE), Lucia
Valentina appeals as an ideal partner for Fastnet Rock on type and pedigree.
