Two new stakes winners on Melbourne Cup day at Flemington underscored yet again the tragedy of losing High Chaparral (IRE) in December 2014.
The Darren Weir-trained 3yo filly Jennifer Lynn made her first stakes appearance a winning one while taking her record to four wins from five starts in the Listed Lexus Hybrid (1400m).
Patiently ridden by Blake Shinn, Jennifer Lynn came from last to defeat Prompt Response (Beneteau) by a short-half-head with the luckless
"To be honest, I thought it was going to be a bit hard for her today with the way we were going to ride her," Weir said.
"I said to Blake, don't worry about where you end up, just let her find her feet and you're probably going to be too far back but just ride her to be hitting the line."
Weir said the improving filly would target races in Sydney during the autumn carnival.
"She's a nice staying filly so we'll have to look at Sydney or something like that," Weir said.
"She did that on raw ability and there's still plenty to come and all she wants to do is find the line."
With earnings of $175,035 to date, Jennifer Lynn has already covered her purchase price of $120,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale.
Consigned by Coolmore Stud, the daughter of High Chaparral (IRE) is the third foal of the Flying Spur mare Espurante
Purchased by the Vierra Group for $240,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare sale,
She has a yearling filly by Pierro and foaled a filly by High Chaparral's champion son So You Think on September 20.
High Chaparral's second stakes winner on Melbourne Cup day came with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fabrizio.
The 5yo gelding has been a stakes winner in waiting and was well fancied in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap.
Things went wrong that day when he took control of international jockey Johan Victoire.
He redeemed himself when strolling home by over four lengths at Randwick, which was the perfect prep for Tuesday's Listed James Boag's Premium Stakes (1800m).
With Luke Nolen managing to rate Fabrizio just off the speed, there was plenty left in the tank when asked for the supreme effort turning for home.
Keeping up a relentless gallop, Fabrizio strolled home by three and a quarter lengths from Tucanchoo (Pentire) with Desert Jeuney (Desert King) a head back in third.
A homebred for George Altomonte's Corumbene Stud, Fabrizio is a half-brother to Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winner Eagle Falls and Group III winner Mahara who were both by Hussonet (USA).
Fabrizio is the fifth and final
