Smart Winner for Benfica

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 31
The Aquis Farm sires were all making news on the weekend with Domesday and Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) siring Group winners on Saturday in Heart Starter and Sheidel, while the young gun Benfica chimed in with a winner of his own on Sunday.

A Group I winning son of Lonrho, Benfica sired progressive three year-old filly Benfica Princess to win at the Sunshine Coast.

BenficaTrying 1600 metres for the first time, Benfica Princess found the line strongly to win by half a length making up for her luckless third at the Gold Coast at her previous start.

Benfica Princess is the third winner for Made of Gold (USA) mare Made of Dreams, who treaces in tail female line to champion mare Emancipation.

She is the fourth winner from less than 20 runners for Benfica, whose oldest progeny are just three year-olds

Benfica stands at a fee of $4,400.
