Aussie Group Double South Africa

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 30
Australian bred three year-olds dominated at Kenilworth in South Africa on Saturday with Redoute's Choice colt Table Bay winning the Group III Drakenstein Vet Clinic Cape Classic and More Than Ready (USA) filly Ektifaa taking out the Group II Choice Carriers Championship.

Table Bay as a yearlingTrained by Joey Ramsden for Mr and Mrs Markus Jooste, Table Bay made it four wins from six four starts he powered away to win the 1400 metre contest by a dominant four lengths to post his second Group victory.

A modest $120,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Henley Park draft for Mayfair Speculators, Table Bay was bred by Raffles Dancers and is the fifth winner for Gabriella (GB), an unraced half-sister to Group I winning sprinter Cape of Good Hope.

Gabriella was on-sold in 2015 fetching $210,000 at Magic Millions when bought by Peter Moran. The current two year-old from Gabriella, a Lonhro filly was sold at Inglis Classic this year for $28,000 and she has a Snitzel yearling colt to follow, but will have no foal this year having missed to Bel Esprit in 2015.

Ektifaa as a yearlingA $600,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Shadwell from the Segenhoe Stud draft, More Than Ready (USA) filly Ektifaa broke through to win her first Black Type event beating the favourite Sail to win the 1400 metre sprint by three quarters of a length.

With three wins and three placings from six starts, the Mike de Kock trained filly has been a model of consistency and is the 165th stakes-winner worldwide for champion sire More Than Ready, whose top class son Prized Icon won the Group I VRC Victoria Derby on Saturday.

Bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds, Ektifaa is the first foal of minor winning Redoute's Choice mare Stellar Vinia, a sibling to Group I winner Calveen, Group II winners Kosi Bay and Fireworks as well as stakes-winner Striker.

Stellar Vinia has a yearling colt by Sebring and produced another colt by the same sire this spring.
