Few trainers had a better record with the progeny of Savabeel than Peter Moody, who now as an owner/breeder, continues to make an impact with Waikato Stud's super sire.
The lightly raced Nurse Kitchen looks a filly of exceptional promise following a barnstorming victory in Saturday's $200,000 Group II P.W. Glass Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Nurse Kitchen defeated the
Trained by David Brideoake for Moody's wife Sarah, Nurse Kitchen had only made two previous starts, winning at Geelong on debut in June at her only 2yo start, before having no luck when unplaced over 1200
"I'm very proud to be here representing my wife with a filly that we bred ourselves," Moody said.
"She's a nice filly. She's always shown good ability and congratulations to David and his team and thanks to Kerrin for a wonderful ride.
"She's got a pretty deep pedigree.
"I think she's going to be a lovely staying filly and hopefully she can develop into an Oaks filly for David and the team in the autumn."
Trainer David Brideoake said he would discuss the filly's immediate future with the owners.
"We've always thought she's a little immature and will take a little bit of racing," Brideoake said.
"We'll have a look at her over the next few days and just decide whether that's enough for her for this spring and that
Nurse Kitchen is the second live foal of the Montjeu mare Flying Monty, a Flemington winner, who was purchased by Moody as a yearling for $100,000 out of the Chequers Stud draft at the 2005 NZB Premier Yearling sale.
She is a half-sister to the Group 1 NZ Derby winner and smart Hong Kong performer Helene Vitality (Zabeel) and the duel Hong Kong Group III winner Everbright (Cape Cross).
Flying Monty has been a regular visitor to the court of Savabeel but unfortunately she missed in 2014 and slipped in 2015 before being covered by the champion son of Zabeel again last spring.
