Interstate Stakes Double for Yarraman Sires

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 16
Yarraman Park star sires Hinchinbrook and I Am Invincible both sired stakes-winners on Saturday with exciting filly Spright winning the Listed ATC Sir Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick and consistent sprinter Voodoo Lad taking out the Group III MRC Ladbrokes Moonga Stakes.

The Garry Frazer trained three year-old filly Spright became the seventh stakes-winner for Hinchinbrook when she thrashed a slick field of colts and fillies to win the 1200 metre sprint by nearly three lengths.

Spright"She's put them away pretty good," said winning rider Jason Collett.

"There were some classy horses there.

"She was matching it as a two-year-old but possibly just a touch weak. She just needed that spell to develop into the three-year-old she is now."

Frazer is likely to send Spright (image Steve Hart) to Melbourne for a shot at the Flemington carnival.

"At this time of year the fillies against the colts is not easy," Frazer said. "But going off her trackwork on Tuesday morning, my son Jordan rode her and he said 'they won't be beating this'.

"I'll let the dust settle but maybe go for the fillies race on Oaks day down the straight. I think she'd love that down the straight."

Spright was a $100,000 Inglis Premier II purchase from the Grange Thoroughbreds draft and was the highest priced filly sold in that part of the sale.

She was a successful pinhook having been bought as a weanling by Gary Mudgway for just $12,000 at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale.

A half-sister to Group III placed Mine Two, Spright is the third winner from Dashoff, who comes from the family of Group I winner Ideal Planet.

Spright runs for a syndicate that includes members of the White family in whose colours she runs. They have been carried by superstars such as Marscay, Triscay, Yippyio, Eremein and Filante, so Spright has some big shoes to fill.

Spright bought up a winning double on the card for Hinchinbrook, who also sired the Chris Waller trained filly Madame Moustache to win the open juvenile event that opened the program.

Five year-old I Am Invincible gelding Voodoo Lad has been in hot form since joining the stable of Darren Weir in Melbourne and has not missed place in nine starts for his new trainer.

Voodoo Lad - Grant CourtneyHe scored his best win to date when powering away to win the 1400 metre sprint by a length and a half as favourite taking his overall record to nine wins from 17 starts with prizemoney topping $670,000.

Purchased for just $36,000 by Segenhoe Thoroughbreds from the Yarraman Park draft at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale, Voodoo Lad is the last foal and third winner for placed Gilded Time (USA) mare O'Fortuna, who died in 2012 and whose dam is a sister to champion sprinter Schillaci.

I Am Invincible also sired a winning double at Randwick with victories for Eckstein and Invinzabeel capping a remarkable weekend of success for the Yarraman sires.

I Am Invincible has had an impressive 10 winners in the past seven days!
