Sold in the past fortnight for $310,000, $100,000 and $150,000 respectively, the Gainsborough Lodge-bred trio each figured amongst the more significant purchases of the Sydney and Gold Coast horses-in-training sale assemblies — two after being sold through the very same sales rings earlier in the year.
The Inglis Ready-to-Race Sale witnessed a son of Written Tycoon prove to be the co-highest purchase of the auction when sold to Belmont Bloodstock Agency for $310,000. The first living foal of the three-time winner Best Feature, the very same youngster was consigned by Gainsborough Lodge for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale (Summer Book) when changing hands for $64,000.
The son of Written Tycoon was originally bought from Gainsborough Lodge by Chevaux Bloodstock, the Mittigong-based operation of Dr John Crowley and Helen Roche. Interviewed shortly after re-selling the youngster for $310K, Dr Crowley declared: "Happy with that result. He was a lovely horse. We thought he was a nicer horse than the one that topped the [same] sale last year, which we also had, as this one had a lot more scope and is an early goer. He had 40-something inspections and we thought he'd bring $250,000."
The Inglis Ready-to-Race Sale also saw a Moshe-Curtail colt, offered by Nolen Racing of Benalla as Lot 195, knocked down to Inglis as Agent (Hong Kong) for $100,000. A close relation of the HK-Group 3 winner Fibber, this 2-year-old had been offered by Gainsborough Lodge at the Scone Select Yearling Sale in May where he was sold for just $12,000.
This week's Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale, hosted by Magic Millions, saw a similarily profitable result enjoyed by Victorian Bloodstock. Consignors of a Captain Sonador-Civita colt that made a very favourable impression in his Seymour breeze-up, the Mornington outfit got $150,000 for a youngster that they had outlaid $21,000 to secure at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale in March. The buyer on this latest occasion was World Wide Bloodstock of South Africa.
All three 2-year-olds were bred, foaled and reared by Gainsborough Lodge under the supervision of stud manager Christine Frohloff before being sold during a 2016 yearling sales series that saw the Darling Downs thoroughbred nursery sell close to 30 Lots for $1.04 million.
