Guy Swoops on Sale Topping Star Colt

Breednet - Wednesday October 12
The success of Star Witness progeny on the racetrack has continued in the sale ring with a late sale topper on Day Two of the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale on Wednesday.

Star Witness x High AspirationsLocal trainer Bryan Guy outlasted rivals in the sales complex to secure the colt, the last lot offered among the 2YOs, for $450,000.

Presented by Washpool Lodge, as Lot 346 in the supplementary catalogue, the Star Witness colt is the second living foal of the Exceed and Excel mare High Aspirations.

Star Witness' progeny had a Saturday to remember last week when Global Glamour won the Group One Thousand Guineas, her second Group One in a week, while Star Turn and Mella Maria added Group Twos to their outstanding records.

Yesterday his colt from Ellamotion topped Day One proceedings when sold to Singapore's Constance Cheng for $315,000.

Today it was the turn of his colt from High Aspirations to star. The good looking chestnut was knocked down to leading local horseman Bryan Guy who was accompanied by his son and new so-trainer Daniel.

"He's a very strong colt," a delighted Bryan Guy said. "He was one of those horses you couldn't help but like."

"I'm delighted to have been able to purchase him - a great type of horse who breezed terrific and looks a great prospect."

"The way he walked showed a real purpose to be a racehorse," Guy added.

The colt was the stand out of the two day Gold Coast 2Yos in Training Sale - a sale which returned a gross of over $10 million - an increase of about $1.9 million in last year's record breaking edition.

The clearance rate continued to improve and rounded out at 73 per cent for 212 lots sold at an average price of $48,910.

The second top priced lot of the day was Washpool Lodge's So You Think colt from Morning Light who was knocked down to Les Kelly for $220,000.

"There were buyers at every level at this sale," Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. "This led to our leading consignors being well rewarded."

"The Gold Coast's own training partnership of Bryan and Daniel Guy purchased the top lot for $450,000 again highlighting that the optimum dollar is delivered at Magic Millions."

"The leading international jurisdiction by spend was Singapore with 34 lots at a spend of $2.17 million while buyers from Macau (19 lots), South Korea (16), Hong Kong (12) and China (10) were also very active."

"A tremendous amount of work was done by our own David Chester and Cassandra Simmonds as well as good friend Paul Beamish to attract the buying bench that attended the sale."
