Coolmore's
champion Australian sire Fastnet Rock passed a milestone in the Northern
Hemisphere overnight siring his 100th stakes-winner when Laganore won
the Listed Pride Stakes at Newmarket.
The Tony Martin trained four year-old mare powered clear to win the 1m2f
contest by four lengths, her fifth win from 13 starts, but first in a Black
Type event.
"Tony Martin told me to ride Laganore cold and he said she would win so he´s a
good judge. We were a bit worried about the ground but she handled it well,"
said winning rider Jim Crowley.
A homebred for Newtown Anner Stud, Laganore is the first winner for Lady Bones,
a half-sister by Royal Applause to Hong Kong Group I winner Blazing Speed from
the family of Group I winners Spartacus and HK Derby winner Super Satin.
Of the 100 stakes-winners sired by Fastnet Rock, 24 are Group I winners and his
success has been very evenly spread between colts and fillies, 52 stakes-winning
colts / geldings and 48 stakes-winning fillies.
At age 15, Fastnet Rock is at the height of his powers and is also making his
presence felt through his sire sons notably Hinchinbrook and the arch rivals Foxwedge
and Smart Missile, who are battling it out for supremacy in the second season
sire division this year.
