14 for Smart Missile

Breednet - Friday October 7
Smart Missile recorded his 14th winner for the season on Friday so we thought we'd have a quick look at just how this start to a season for a second-season sire compared to recent years.

Smart MissileThe 14th winner was Woomera, who started favourite at his third run and broke through for the maiden win at Port Macquarie.

He is a half-brother to five time stakes winning sprinter News Alert, out of Breaking News (Brief Truce) and was a $260,000 buy for Paul Perry from the Kitchwin Hills Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

At the same stage of the season in the past five years it's the best any stallion has gone, with the five previous leaders being Star Witness, I Am Invincible, Northern Meteor, Casino Prince and Ad Valorem.

The stats of Foxwedge with eight winners and two stakes winners stacks up strongly as well.

For a group of young stallions who started their careers to rare hype but finished their initial season generally considered a bit disappointing, the cream looks to be rising to the top in year two.

Below are the top five in recent years up to the comparable current date.
