Best On Breeding

Mark Smith - Thursday September 29

Just five short years ago things were going famously for Nathan Tinkler.

He was showcasing a young Brazilian-born superstar named Joao Moreira to the Australian public and his foundation stallion Husson (ARG) hit the ground running.

At his first ride at Randwick, Moreira won the Listed Gimcrack Stakes on Hussousa who carried the silks of Tinkler's Patinack Farm.(photo Mark Smith ).

The grey filly kick-started the career of Patinack Farm's Husson (ARG), a son of Hussonet (USA), who was undefeated in five starts in his native Argentina.

While Hussousa's career was restricted to just four starts as a two-year-old, she did not win again after the Gimcrack, there's no doubt she was top-class.

Sent for a spell after her debut win, the John Thompson-trained filly was next seen out four months later at Warwick Farm where she placed third behind Driefontein in the Listed Widden Stakes.

It took the Triple Crown winning Pierro to defeat Hussousa in the Group II Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill.

She then ran into another top-liner at the top of her game when second best to the More Than Ready filly Samaready in the Group II Reisling Stakes with Gerald Ryan's future Group 1 winner Snitzerland back in fourth.

A career ending injury resulted in Hussousa visiting More Than Ready (USA) in her first season.

The resultant foal was a filly that was sent to the 2015 Magic Millions National Weanling sale by Vinery Stud where she was pinhooked by Amarina Farm for $220,000.

Reoffered at this year's Gold Coast Yearling sale, the grey filly (pictured) proved a sound investment when knocked down to BK Racing and Breeding for $400,000.

Named Didn't Mention It and sent to Gerald Ryan, the More Than Ready filly will be out to emulate her dam when making her career debut in Saturday's $150,000 Listed Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick.

She performed credibly when third behind Godolphin's very impressive Exceed And Excel filly Jorda, who opposes her again on Saturday, at the Randwick barrier trials but looked to have improved from that experience to score by three lengths in a Rosehill barrier trial just three days ago.

A sister to the Group 1 Queensland Oaks runner-up Sister Souss, Hussousa is out of the Redoute's Choice mare Petousa whose dam La Rose Noir (Centaine) was a Listed stakes winner in New Zealand.

From one of Waikato Stud's famed families, La Rose Noir is a three-quarter sister to blue hen Escada the dam of Group 1 Doncaster Handicap and Group 1 George Ryder Stakes winner Vision And Power, dual Group 1 winner Glamour Puss, multiple Listed winner Escadaire and Group II Stan Fox Stakes winner Rare Insight the dam of Group 1 Coolmore Classic winner Steps In Time.
