First to Fire

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 29
The first round of new season two year-old racing begins this weekend with the Listed ATC Breeders Plate and Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick and the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington Sunday, so which of our first season sires are in the hunt to put their name up in lights.

Domination as a yearlingArch rivals All Too Hard and Pierro have one runner each in Sydney with Mystic Empire (2f All Too Hard x Empress Wu) an acceptor for the Gimcrack Stakes and Spencer (2c Pierro x Alice's Smart (USA) to run in the Breeders Plate.

All Too Hard is also represented in Melbourne where Domination (2c All Too Hard x Attunga Rose) will make his debut for the Tony McEvoy stable in the VRC Maribyrnong Trial. Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom (USA) did have an acceptor in the same race, but Platinum has been scratched.

Domination is an interesting horse from a stable noted for their ability get an early juvenile and if looks count for anything, the handsome chestnut might get his sire off to a good start.

Domination was an $80,000 purchase from the Vinery draft at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale for renowned judge Paul Willetts and proved a highly successful pinhook for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds when re-offered at Magic Millions where he made $260,000 when snapped up by McEvoy Mitchell Racing.

Domination is the fourth foal of Attunga Rose, an unraced half-sister to South African Group I winner Fighting Warrior and South African Group II winner Royal Zulu Warrior.

Juvenile racing will also take place at Morphettville, Belmont and Doomben with several first season sires represented including Your Song (2), Barbados, Excelebration (IRE) and Gingerbread Man.

Follow all the first season sire information in our dedicated section as the season unfolds.
