Already hundreds of quality youngsters have breezed around the country in preparation for the sale at the Gold Coast on October 11 and 12. On the eve of the auction a final breeze up session will be held at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Monday, October 10.
Some 132 lots set to go under the hammer have broken 11 seconds for their timed breeze in what is shaping as the best ever edition of the sale. And there's still one session to come in a few weeks.
Australia's leading sires are among 126 individual stallions represented by juveniles – Street Cry, Not a Single Doubt, Written Tycoon, Fastnet Rock, Encosta de Lago, Redoute's Choice, Snitzel, Sebring, Choisir, High Chaparral, More Than Ready, Magnus, Stratum, Mossman, Commands and I Am Invincible. Also represented are 16 first season sires including multiple Group One winners All Too Hard, Excelebration, Pierro and Reliable Man.
Past graduates of the sale have been excelling on tracks around the world with 10 stakes wins during the 2015/16 racing season. Those headline performances came from the likes of Cradle Me, The Alfonso, Sovereign Nation, Fontelina, Mystic Master, Hooked and Mission Gdragon. Another former graduate is Australian and Melbourne Cup winner and exciting young sire Shocking.
At the time of writing with 23 individual winners, the Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale led the way for success for buyers from last year's auction when compared to other breeze up style auctions in Australasia. That's an impressive statistic considering the Queensland based auction is also the best value of its type – the most winners at the most affordable prices.
Those graduates include the Singapore Juvenile Championship winner Mystic Master, Brisbane Winter Carnival stakes performer Dreams Aplenty, Caulfield winner Yu Long Sheng Hui and Townsville Classic winner Tyzone, an earner of over $142,000.
Leading vendors Washpool Lodge, Raheen Stud, Kenmore Lodge and Symphony Lodge are back again in 2016. Their drafts at last year's auction have already produced 13 individual winners.
International buyers will be well represented at the sale – Singapore's Alwin Tan will be one of the keenest bidders. He has already had three winners from his purchase list last year headlined by S$207,000 earner Mystic Master for the Wang Wang Stable.
One of the more recent winners on the domestic circuit from last year's sale was $40,000 graduate Written in Stone, an impressive debut winner for Darren Weir in the Spicer Thoroughbreds colours at Pakenham on September 14.
The sale will be an extravaganza for domestic buyers with so many youngsters eligible for rich bonuses and Magic Millions Race Series eligibility.
