Written Tycoon mare Tycoon Tara has been a revelation since joining the stable of Peter and Paul Snowden with three stakes wins from four starts, the latest coming with a dominant performance in Saturday's $400,000 Group II Golden Pendant (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Josh Parr was never seriously challenged in setting the early pace on the 6yo mare.
Still full of running on straightening for the run home, Tycoon Tara kept up a relentless gallop to defeat Dixie Blossoms (Street Sense) by two lengths with Pearls (Exceed and Excel) running on late to claim third a further half-length back. (photos Lisa Grimm)
It was the fifth stakes win for Tycoon Tara advancing her record to 9 wins, 2 seconds and 2 thirds from 26 starts with earnings of $809,870.
"She was just so nice for me mid-race," Parr said
"She had a nice breather in the middle stages of the race and she was able to build momentum and really let down off that.
"I rode her Thursday morning and I grew so much in confidence for today. What a mare, God love her. Parr and Snowden, we combine again."
It was a timely win for Parr who was sidelined for six months after a hip operation.
"I'm on the comeback trail so it's really nice to get a big race win," Parr said.
Slated to go to stud this spring, Tycoon Tara looks to have put that on hold as she is racing in career best form.
Peter Snowden said he was not overly impressed when Tycoon Tara first entered the stable.
"The owners wanted me to take her to Brisbane for the carnival and I was just hoping we would get through the week because she was very light," Snowden said.
"She didn't look right and I said if you give me six weeks I can improve her. In that six
"I'll have to have a think about things now. I was thinking about giving her a little freshen-up but it's hard to tip them out when they're racing this well."
Bred and part-owned by Tony Krushka, Tycoon Tara is the third of four foals left by the 4-time Melbourne winning Encores mare
