Having
shown promise in his first two starts, Sepoy colt Khukri broke through
impressively at his third start at The Curragh on Thursday.
Khukri had produced an impressive debut at 25/1 when second Intelligence at The
Curragh and started favourite at the same track next time out but raced a
little flat when third.
It came together on Thursday though where he showed his customary speed after a
little slow into stride and always had the race in his keeping, beating Spanish
Tenor by half a length with five lengths to the third horse.
"He did it nicely. The ground was a big worry. He wants
good ground," trainer Jessica Harrington to Racing Post.
"I would say he is a stakes horse but he has to have his ground to properly
show what he is made of. I like him,"
Khukri is the ninth foal of Fraulein (by Acatenango) who was a Grade One winner
in Canada and has left two Listed race winners so far in That Is The Spirit and
Mischief Making.
Khukri becomes the 11th Northern Hemisphere bred winner for Sepoy.
He is standing the current season at Darley at a fee of $33,000.
