Emirates Park sire
Artie Schiller (USA) kicked another international goal in his burgeoning stud
career when Singapore-raced Twickenham showed tremendous fighting spirit to
land the Group 3 Committee's Prize (1600m) at Kranji over the weekend.
A seasoned son of the El Prado stallion raced by the St George Stable,
Twickenham turned-in a career-best performance when winning the SGP$200,000
feature.
Sent to the lead in a 12-horse field, the 6-year-old controlled the contest for
the majority of the race before coming under severe pressure down the home
straight.
Despite appearing a beaten horse racing in to the final 100 metres, the
strapping son of Artie Schiller managed to kick back in the closing stages and
win by the narrowest of possible margins.
Winning jockey Vlad Duric confessed after the race:
"I thought I had lost the race and even turned to Corey [Brown] and said 'good
on you', you got me. I know I had a late surge but I thought he might have held
on."
Duric added: "Credit to him [Twickenham] as the second horse was gallant in
defeat, but my horse is such a tough horse and he showed it today."
Twickenham has now won eight of his 23 career starts, earning more than
SGP$512,000.
One of Singapore's most versatile performers, the gelded son of Artie Schiller
has won over 1200m, 1400m (4), 1600m (2) and 1800m.
Twickenham became the 34th stakes winner of Artie Schiller's stud career and
the stallion's third maiden black-type winner in recent weeks following Bowie's
Hero (Del Mar Juvenile Turf S.-LR) and Majestic Pride (Canterbury Park Brooks
Fields S.-LR).
He is first stakes winner produced by Lady Migaloo, a daughter of General
Nediym also responsible for the multiple Singapore stakes.
