So You Think Good Times Are Coming?

Craig Tompson - Monday September 19
So You Think had his third winner for the week on Sunday but like the other two, it was the manner more than the fact that caught the eye.

So You ThinkThe winner in question was Inference, he was actually So You Think's first Australian winner back in May and he hasn't been beaten since, three in a row now.

On Saturday his daughter La Diosa became his second stakes winner in the NZ Bloodstock Canterbury Stakes (Listed) at Riccarton and they're talking the Group One Thousand Guineas in NZ.

On Thursday, So Si Bon won a maiden at Pakenham and there was mention of the Caulfield Guineas.

There's probably a measure of genuine potential in La Diosa's hopes at a Group One mile but for the other pair it's what's going to come after that might be worth waiting for.

The Caulfield Guineas in the past few years has been won by Press Statement, Shooting To Win, Long John, All Too Hard and Helmet.

All much better exposed at a much higher level then So Si bon or Inference by now which makes the Caulfield Guineas probably a step too far, but beyond that there could be some good results for the So You Thinks.

By mid-September the last four Victoria Derby winners, Tarzino, Preferment, Polanski and Fiveandahalfstar were either maidens or barely out of maiden grade.

It wasn't until the September of his three-year-old season that So You Think himself started to come to prominence and he's been bubbling along well enough to date, not threatening the leading stallions of his generation yet but with some nice late season two-year-olds and now some promising early season three-year-olds he's done enough to keep him under notice and his time might be coming.

With only a few weeks until the better races get longer and the young promising middle distance horses start to get into their comfort zone it's going to be no surprise at all if the likes of Inference and So Si Bon are right near the top.
