Following luckless runs in the Lawrence Stakes and Dato' Tan Chin Nam, Jameka deserved a change of fortune and she got it in spades in Saturday's Group III Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield.
From an inside barrier, Nick Hall had the daughter of Myboycharlie travelling sweetly on the fence back in fourth as Tom Melbourne set the early pace.
With everyone trying to get off the fence, Hall took
The race was put to bed in a matter of strides, the further they went the bigger the margin as the Victorian Oaks winner came home three and three-quarter lengths ahead of Gallante with a further one and
Trainer Ciaron Maher said the plan was to stick to the rails.
"We thought she was going to get a lovely run from that draw, the only thing was if he could get off when he wanted to,” Maher said.
"Lucky he was able to sprint through when he wanted to. When she's able to use her stride like that and roll along she just seems to relax and is much happier,
"She was very competitive in whatever we put her in last season and now as a four-year-old you know she's a more mature horse.”
The win secured Jameka ballot-free entry into the Group 1 Caulfield Cup.
"We'll enter her in the JRA Cup and the Turnbull (Stakes) and just work out which one is the best option for her,” Maher said.
"She's certainly coming up well and it's good to see her back winning.”
With her fourth stakes win, Jameka advances her overall record to 4 wins, 3 seconds and 4 thirds from 17 starts with earnings of $1,680,725.
Bred by Gilgai Rick Jamieson, Jameka was a $130,000 Inglis Premier purchase by her trainer from the draft of Gilgai Farm.
A half-sister to Magic Millions 2yo Classic runner-up Nikitas (Snitzel), Jameka was the second most expensive yearling for Myboycharlie in 2014.
She is one of three winners from as many foals to reach the track for General Nediym mare Mine Game, a winning half-sister to Group I STC Canterbury Guineas winner Jymcarew.
Mine Game has a yearling filly by Shamus Reward but missed last spring to both Snitzel and Redoute's Choice.
