The winning margin was not great but the ease of the win was, as Winx had a Saturday afternoon out in the $500,000 Colgate Optic White George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.
In front of just one horse in the run, Hugh Bowman made sure Winx was not troubled by any other runner, coming widest on the home turn.
After letting the rein out a notch, Winx came over the rise under her own steam, requiring little more than a shakeup by Bowman to defeat Hauraki by one and
It was the 11th consecutive win and the seventh at the highest level for the 5yo daughter of Street Cry (IRE) whose advances her overall record to 15 wins (13 stakes), and 3 seconds from 21 starts with earnings of $7,135,425
"I'm just enjoying the ride,” Bowman said.
"She's going to meet better horses now, so she's ticked this box but we're under no illusions.
"She's beaten inferior opposition today but there's going to be nowhere to hide when we get to Melbourne.
"We saw Hartnell win here 40 minutes ago and he put a margin on his opposition.
"She's come through it well today, she's had a good blow and she's felt the run.”
Waller said the star mare did what she needed to do and will now head to Melbourne with the Group I Caulfield Stakes in three weeks her next target.
"Today's win wasn't a gap job,” Waller said.
"It wasn't intended to be either, she's had four weeks between runs.
"We just need to know where she is, plus we needed to win here, there are bigger targets.
"Hugh said before the race that he just wanted to let her relax and she'll decide what she wants to do as soon as she jumps.”
Bred by John Camilleri's Fairway Thoroughbreds, Winx was a $230,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft for Peter Tighe's Magic Bloodstock.
A half-sister to Group III Kindergarten Stakes winner El Divino, Winx is the second foal of the duel stakes-winner Vegas Showgirl (Al Akbar) who has a 2yo colt by Snitzel and foaled a filly by Snitzel ten days ago.
