This
son of So You Think showed promise in his first preparation and after getting
the maiden out of the way on Thursday is heading straight to stakes grade.
So Si Bon made a late season debut at Flemington in June when slow from the
gates but catching the eye with a strong finishing second over a too short
1100m, then went to Caulfield where a strong argument could be mounted to say
he was a good thing beaten despite being beaten some three lengths.
The barrier manners were better when resuming on the Pakenham Synthetic Track
on Thursday and, despite lacking natural speed, tracked the leaders and
stretched out impressively to be too strong.
So Si Bon had also been an acceptor for Saturday's meeting at Caulfield but
with the Caulfield Guineas a potential target, trainer Robbie Laing opted for Thursday
to give him nine days before his next run in the Gr.3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude
on September 24.
"We'll go there and see how good he is,” Laing told Racing.com.
"He's a class colt. He's got a great pedigree, and a big future."
Bred by Morning Rise Stud, So Si Bon is out of former smart stakes winning juvenile Black Minx (by Lonhro)
and is the second to race and first winner for the mare.
He was offered by Newgate Farm at the 2015 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, selling
for $250,000 to the bid of Robbie Laing.
Black Minx has since sadly died with her last being a two-year-old colt by All
Too Hard which made $140,000 as a yearling this year which was sadly her last
So Si Bon is the fourth winner this season for So You Think who stands at
Coolmore Stud at a fee of $49,500.
