Sun Mares Produce Tapit Foals

Breednet - Thursday September 15
There appears to be little debate that North American stallion, Tapit, is the most commercial sire in the world today.

TapitStanding at Gainesway Farm in Kentucky at a fee of $US300,000 and currently the leading sire by earnings and winners, Tapit is starring at the this week's Keeneland September Yearling Sale where his 10 yearlings have averaged $US651,500.

Determined to offer the world's best bloodlines and most current pedigrees, Sun Stud purchased four well-bred broodmares in North America and, wisely, put them in foal to Tapit to southern hemisphere time.

The first of those mares, Inventive, produced a cracking filly at the end of August and mere days later, the foal's half-brother, Klimt, won the Group One Del Mar Futurity and is now one of the favourites for the Kentucky Derby (the last 2 Derby winners - American Pharoah and Nyquist - won the Del Mar Futurity at two before racing into the history books at 3).

A fairly astute purchase given that Inventive cost just $US80,000.

Other Sun Stud mares in foal to Tapit include stakes winner Mabadi (dam of stakes winner Salai) which has produced a colt, the Group Two placed Fee Fi Fo Fum dropped a filly in the last week, while the stakes winning Amature's Prize is due to foal shortly.

Tap that!
