The
most expensive yearling by Star Witness made the right start to public life
with a win in the only two-year-old barrier trial at Rosehill on Tuesday.
Eden Roc, trained by Team Hawkes showed good speed from the gate to lead and
responded encouragingly in the straight to score a narrow win from Madama
Moustache (Hinchinbrook x Gamble, $180,000) and Augustus (Snitzel x Gussy
Godiva, $375,000).
Eden Roc, by Star Witness out of Hilton Head was offered by Widden Stud at the
Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January, making $750,000 to the bid
of Alan Bell's Bury Management.
That made the colt the most expensive Star Witness to be sold, and by some
margin, with $450,000 the next highest.
Another interesting winner was So You Think three-year-old Too Fast For Love
which won her heat by four lengths and ran the fastest time of the nine 900m
heats.
Too Fast For Love didn't threatened to win one in five starts as a juvenile
however she did finish fourth in the Inglis Nursery over 1000m at Randwick last
December and was given a tilt at the Listed Woodlands Stakes at Scone in May.
The So You Think progeny were warming to the task in the latter stages of last
season which is just what his supporters would have been looking for.
More will be expected of his three-year-olds and Too Fast For Love does look to
be an improver.
