Stakes winning two year old new to stud in Victoria

Breednet - Thursday September 8
An interesting newcomer to the sire ranks in Victoria this season is Sports Edition, a very well bred, two years old stakes winning son of Northern Meteor.

Sports EditionSports Edition had two starts prior to an injury that prematurely ended his racing career.

At his first start, he ran second to subsequent Group 1 winner Almalad and then won a Listed 2YO stakes race at his second start.

Following his victory, serious injury enforced an 18 month lay-off which ultimately precluded him from performing successfully in four subsequent starts and he was retired.

Sports Edition is one of only three Northern Meteor colts to win at stakes level as a 2YO with the other two being Zoustar and Fighting Sun.

Sports Edition belongs to a very well performed family, his dam Newscasterhas produced three stakes winners including Group 1 winner Amanpour, a full sister to Sports Edition, and another of her daughters has also produced a stakes winner.

Sports Edition's overall pedigree possesses the champion broodmare sire influences of Encosta de Lago and Marscay, and he is free of Danehill blood.

Gai Waterhouse described him as a "very nice type, a lovely big, strong burly colt."

Early reports from Wyndholm Park are that the son of Northern Meteor has been well received by Victorian breeders and he is on target to cover a book in excess of 100 mares in his inaugural season at stud.

Northern Meteor's sons have been extremely popular with breeders and Sports Edition provides the Victorian market access to a very well bred and fast son of Northern Meteor.

Sports Edition will stand at Wyndholm Park Stud in Victoria at an advertised service fee of $9,900 (GST inclusive).
