The progeny of Rich Hill Stud's dual Group One winner Shocking are on fire on
both sides of the Tasman.
The son of the internationally-successful Street Cry has already been
represented by four winners in Australia this week and today he was sired a
winning double in New Zealand and produced a new black type performer.
"What is exciting is that they are all lightly-tried horses who have come back
so much better as four-year-olds," Rich Hill's John Thompson said.
"We always expected his progeny to improve, just as Shocking himself did - he
progressed from being a Queensland Derby runner-up at three to winning the
Melbourne Cup the following season.
"We look to be in for exciting times as there are any number of his progressive
sons and daughters set to appear in the coming weeks and months."
Shocking's
hot sequence in Australia began on Sunday when Mr Million struck at Geelong,
Little Shocker was then a runaway winner on Monday and Unsullied was successful
at Moe on Tuesday.
Adding to his impressive haul at Gawler this afternoon was his daughter Not So
Lady Like, who opened her winning account while Royal Shame finished runner-up
at the Sandown meeting.
Shocking
also delivered on the home front at Matamata today with the Peter McKay-trained
Rodmar (pictured top - courtesy Matamata Race Club) setting the ball rolling and the job was tidily finished by the Stephen
Marsh-prepared Chocante.
"The owners have been very patient and they will get their rewards," Rodmar's trainer
Peter McKay said. "This horse has kept improving and I think he's going to be a
pretty good stayer. He's strengthened up now."
Chocante (pictured below - courtesy Matamata Race Club) returned in style in his first appearance since he finished a
creditable eighth in the Gr 2 Champion Stakes in April. He has now won twice
from seven appearances.
"I think he has a bright future and he will get up over ground - I think he
might be a cups horse with a bit of time," Marsh said.
The winning efforts of Rodmar and Chocante followed the meritorious third
placing last weekend of Shocking's daughter Hello M'Lady who finished third in
the Listed Wanganui Guineas.
"It was a great effort by our filly, we were further back than we wished for
and she didn't get a lot of luck from where she was placed in the running, but
she showed her class when the run did come," part-owner and trainer Vicki
Prendergast said.
Shocking stands at Rich Hill Stud for $8500 in 2016.
