Opening
their accounts in South Africa at Scottsville on Sunday were promising
Australian bred three year-olds Dame Eleanor and Roy's Magic, a son of leading
second crop sire Foxwedge.
Winning on debut for the Mike de Kock stable was New Approach (IRE) filly Dame Eleanor,
who scored over 1200 metres by a length and a quarter.
An $85,000 Inglis Premier purchase for form Bloodstock from the Yallambee Stud
draft, Dame Eleanor is the first winner for stakes-winning Exceed and Excel mare
Curtana, a full sister to triple Group I winner Flamberge.
Saluting in the next race was the Duncan Howells trained Foxwedge colt Roy's
Magic, who won by half a length over 1200 metres at his second start having
finished third on debut.
Passed in twice at the sales, Roy's Magic is the third winner for Chilean Group
II winner Wild Storm (Chi), a daughter of Hussonet.
Roy's Magic is the 24th winner in both hemispheres for Newgate Farm's
Foxwedge.
