Coolmore
stalwart Choisir featured overnight with a brilliant juvenile stakes-winner
when two year-old colt The Last Lion bolted way for an easy victory in the
Group III Sirenia Stakes at Kempton.
A stakes-winner at Sandown in July and then Group placed at his next two
outings, the Mark Johnston trained colt scorched the all weather surface in
racing away to win the six furlong sprint by four lengths.
Tough and consistent, the speedster has three wins and five placings from eight
starts this year.
"The Last Lion was having his eighth run of the season and could be back on the
track as soon as Friday. He´s in at Doncaster and he takes his racing so well
you couldn´t rule it out. He also holds an entry in the Group I Middle Park at
Newmarket later this month,” said part-owner
Megan Dennis.
Purchased for 82,000 euros from the Goffs Orby Sale, The Last Lion is a sibling
to stakes-winning sprinters Russian Rock and Contest being from the good Group
I placed producer Mala Mala, a half-sister by Brief Truce to Group I winner
Tarascon.
This is a family that has made a big impact here and includes Group I NZ One
Thousand Guineas winner Vivacious Spirit and Group winners Serene Majesty and
Fravashi.
Choisir stands at Coolmore Australia this spring at a fee of $29,700 alongside
his champion son Starspangledbanner at $24,750.
