Spendthrift Colt Wins Ming Dynasty

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 3
Spendthrift Australia have invested heavily in expensive colts at recent Australian yearling sales and struck a good result at Randwick on Saturday with Swear, a $725,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Tyreel Stud draft.

Prepared patiently by Team Hawkes, Swear was an impressive debut winner at the Hawkesbury stand alone meeting on April 30 when successful in the $126,400 Claret Stakes over 1300 metres. (images Steve Hart_)

Spelled immediately after, he was resuming in the Group III ATC Ming Dynasty Quality over 1400 metres and was the popular pick with punters despite the heavy track.

Well primed with two recent trials under his belt, Swear travelled smoothly for Tommy Berry just behind the leader and was strong to the line in beating High Chaparral (IRE) colt High Mist by half a length.

With two wins in as many starts and prizemoney topping $170,000, Swear will now look for bigger fish to fry as he is entered for the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas and MVRC Cox Plate.

"He's a stayer on the up. He covers a lot of ground and hopefully there's a lot more in store for him once he stretches out in journey,” Michael Hawkes said.

"He's a nice horse on the way up."

A good looking son of champion sire Redoute's choice, Swear was bred by Dean Fleming and is the best of four winners from stakes-winning Show a Heart mare Crossyourheart, a full sister to Group III winner Gotta Have Heart from the family of Group I winning sprinter All Thrills Too.

Crossyourheart was on-sold in 2014 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale where she was snapped up by bloodstock agent Steve Brem for $480,000 on behalf of Greg Perry.

Perry sold a Commands colt from Crossyourheart in the Vinery draft at Inglis Easter this year for $100,000 and she has an All Too Hard filly to follow. Crossyourheart was covered last spring by Stratum so will produce a three-quarter sibling to Swear this year.

Swear is the 136th stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud's champion sire Redoute's Choice.
