Bluegrass in Business with Magnus

Media Release - Thursday September 1

Bluegrass Bloodstock (FBAA) agent Lenny Russo hit a career high with Malaguerra at the Queensland winter carnival and he has another Magnus galloper in winning form back home in Victoria.

Dave Azzopardi, Shannyn Puddy & Joan Wakim celebrate another win with strapper Emma HubertMagnette (4m Magnus – Zipstream by Distant Music) won for the third time at Bairnsdale on August 6 and trainer Wez Hunter has nominated her for Moe next Tuesday.

A $110,000 buy for Bluegrass Bloodstock at the 2014 Adelaide Magic Millions, she has substantial residual value being a sister to G3 Sir John Monash Stakes winner Miss Promiscuity. And her breeder Rob Crabtree kept a share in a syndicate that includes Dave Azzopardi's Dream Thoroughbreds.

Meanwhile, Malaguerra is gearing up for his next campaign with trainer Peter Gelagotis. A Group 1 winner of the BTC Cup at Doomben in May, he's back in work for a light spring carnival in advance of a possible trip to Perth for the G1 Winterbottom Stakes.

Russo purchased Malaguerra for Perth-based owner Bruno Micallizzi at the 2013 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale and the gelding has turned a $32,000 price-tag into earnings of $758,000.

Gelagotis also prepares promising Bluegrass Bloodstock homebred Moss 'N' Dale (NZ). The lightly-raced 4yo improved his record to 4 wins in 8 starts at Sandown Lakeside on August 7 and he's been nominated for the United Refrigeration Hcp (1514m) at Moonee Valley this Saturday.

Russo raced his dam Hot 'N' Moss and sent her to Te Runga Stud in New Zealand to be mated with Castledale, an Irish-bred Group 1 winning son of Peintre Celebre.

"This horse just wants to be a racehorse and to see him progress to city grade so quickly is a credit to his attitude and application,” Gelagotis said. "It's hard to put a handle on him at this stage because he just keeps finding which is a very good trait – he just loves to win.”

Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) was formed in 1998 to maintain, improve and develop the standards, status and services of bloodstock agents throughout Australia. Its members operate with the utmost integrity and professionalism and are bound by the strict Industry Code of Conduct.
