From Spring Star to Stud Career

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 31
Early spring racing heralds the emergence of new three year-old stars and in 2013 it was all about this colt.

Va PensieroStratum colt Va Pensiero had always shown above average ability, but at his first run back as a spring three year-old put his name in lights when powering to a dominant win in the prestigious Group III ATC San Domenico Stakes (1100m).

Won in the past by some outstanding colts including General Nediym, Testa Rossa and Charge Forward, the San Domenico is a proven speed test for the class three year-olds of their generation.

Trained by Jason Coyle, Va Pensiero followed up with a career defining victory in the Group III ATC Run to the Rose over 1200 metres beating subsequent Australian Horse of the Year Dissident by a long head.

In fourth place was Zoustar, who would go on to win both the Group I ATC Golden Rose and Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Dissident now stands at Newgate Farm at a fee of $33,000 and has his first foals being born this spring.

Zoustar is at Widden Stud at a fee of $44,000 and will have yearlings at the sales in 2017.

StratumFor breeders seeking a Group I quality, young stallion at an affordable fee, Va Pensiero makes plenty of appeal at Jindera Park, priced at $7,700.

With a pedigree featuring a double cross of Danzig and a double cross of Bletchingly, it's not hard to see why Va Pensiero had speed to burn.

He is one of 30 stakes-winners by Redoute's Choice's brilliant Golden Slipper winning son Stratum, who is a top class sire with 68% winners to runners and progeny earnings topping $45 million.

Va Pensiero adds precocious speed to a diverse and appealing roster at Jindera Park.

Jindera Park's stallion roster:
DUPORTH (Red Ransom) $6,600
FAST 'N' FAMOUS (Redoute's Choice) $5,500
ILLUSTRIOUS BLUE (Dansili) $2,500
NOM DU JEU (Montjeu) $4,400
VA PENSIERO (Stratum) $7,700
