Champion
NRL footballer Johnathan Thurston has been confirmed as a part-owner of the
top-priced Bullet Train (GB) colt sold during the course of the 2016 domestic
yearling sale series staged in the first half of this year.
Offered by
Bowness Stud as Lot 355 at the Magic Millions 2016 Gold Coast Yearling Sale,
the youngster was secured by Southport-based trainer Kent Fleming for $150,000.
The price-tag established the youngster as the most expensive member of Bullet
Train's first crop sold at public auction.
Earlier
this month, Fleming told Gold Coast Bulletin journalist Tom Boswell that
Thurston had taken an interest in the colt and that the son of Bullet Train was
doing everything right on a path leading to next year's $2 million Magic
Millions 2YO Classic at Southport.
"He is a
beautiful looking colt and we haven't had any issues with him," revealed
Fleming in the Gold Coast Bulletin article published on August 13.
"He is a
big, strong boy and the best thing about him is that he has got a fantastic
temperament. Nothing seems to bother him."
Besides
Thurston, Fleming also confirmed that Cowboys and State of Origin teammate
Gavin Cooper has also taken an interest in the Bullet Train-Kinder Surprise
colt, as well as prominent owner Frank Cook of Preferment, Foreteller and
Moriarty Group 1 fame.
While the Kinder Surprise colt is yet to have a name, more than 20 members of the stallion's first locally-bred 2-year-old contingent have been named in a very positive sign indicating that Bullet Train could enjoy his share of early runners. These include Itz A Bullet, a son of the 1998 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Catnapped.
