Racetrack magazine issued a press release on Wednesday heralding the end of a magazine that was once the bible for horse and race obsessed children like I was in the seventies and eighties.
Racetrack Release - This is to advise Racetrack magazine has ceased publishing.
The recent issue '2016 Sires & Group 1 Racing Annual'in current circulation will be the last.
Racetrack has been a wonderful servant to the racing and breeding industries and provided many with career-defining opportunities.
The decision to cease publishing while a difficult one is also a necessary one.
It is based on the latest consumer trends and the rapidly changing nature of how information is delivered.
To continue publishing would not have been in the best interests of future advertisers - the lifeblood of any magazine - along with the loyal subscribers and news agency customers.
The decision to cease is not in any way related to the current photographer's accreditation dispute with Racing Victoria.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many supporters of Racetrack.
And may I conclude with the words of the original founder of Racetrack, Arthur Thorn.
"Our glorious turf has been studded with stars and if any one of them has for some reason or another, caused you to be stirred by the outstanding nature of his (or her) performance, then cherish the memory and I hope it will stay with you for the rest of your life, just as my memories have stayed with me for mine" - Arthur Thorn (1919-2002), Founder of Racetrack
