Oaks Winner Ready for Return

Media Release - Sunday August 21
A comfortable first-up effort at the Foxton trials last week has trainer Roydon Bergerson pleased with the progress of class mare Savaria as he prepares her for a tilt at the Group I Livamol Classic in October.

Savaria - Race ImagesThe former New Zealand Oaks winner was having her first serious hit-out since finishing third in the Listed Hawkes Bay Cup in April and lobbed along towards the rear of the eight strong trial field before closing off nicely in the home straight.

"We really just wanted to give her a quiet run around to see how she was progressing and she did everything we asked," noted Bergerson.

"She has been back in work awhile after wintering really well so it was good chance to lift her fitness up a notch without putting any pressure on her.

"She came through the trial well and has tightened up nicely so she's ready to go to the races now."

Bergerson has the open mile at Hawkes Bay this weekend as the race to kick-off her spring campaign which he hopes will culminate in Group One glory.

"She had a tough season as a four-year-old where things didn't really go that well for her thanks to some niggling issues and a little bad luck," he said.

"This time in she has really strengthened up and grown into herself so I'm hopeful this will be her year.
"There is a nice race for her this weekend and safely through that we will assess where to go with her next but her major goal at this stage is the Livamol Classic." – NZ Racing Desk
