The
Randwick trials on Friday morning produced plenty of good performances from
established stakes horses such as English, Japonisme, Astern, Furnaces and
company, but there were also some new names that impressed including a Redoute's
Choice colt retained to race by Turangga Farm.
Three year-old colt Glenall was transferred from Peter Moody to Les Bridge
earlier this year and has shown good improvement in his three recent trials culminating
in a commanding five and a half length win in his 1050 metre heat.
He jumped well from the gates for Tim Clark and went straight to the front
before powering clear down the running to win as he pleased clocking 1:02.70,
which was marginally quicker that Silver Slipper winner Astern ran three heats
earlier.
Wet tracks have delayed the debut of Glenall, but he'll be worth following when
he steps out on race day.
Glenall is a half-brother to stakes-winner Panipique and stakes-placed Tribal
Law being from the former brilliant Spinning World (USA) sprinter Our Quivira.
Our Quivira has a yearling colt by Stratum and is due to foal to All Too Hard.
The following trial was won by another Turangga Farm bred in four year-old mare
Vernier, a half-sister to Group I winner Headway by Zizou.
She was a $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Gai Waterhouse/James Harron/
Round Table, but sadly pulled up lame after her only start at Newcastle earlier
this month.
Vernier showed no sign of that when cruising clear to win by three lengths in a
brisk 1:02.50 seconds.
Another eye-catching winner for the Waterhouse / Bott partnership was three
year-old Star Witness filly Global Glamour, whose only race day outing resulted
in a brilliant six length win at Kembla back in January.
Global Glamour won her 735 metre heat by a length and a half with her ears
pricked.
A $65,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm draft
for James Bester It's All About The Girls Syndicate, Global Glamour is from metro
winning Testa Rossa mare Spectacula.
Global Glamour has always been held in very high regard by the stable and is
entered for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas.
