Generalissimo joined the
growing number of first-crop progeny by Dream Ahead (USA) hitting their straps
as early 3-year-olds with an impressive maiden victory on his home track of
Hawkesbury.
Raced in the familiar colours of nearby Hobartville Stud, the eye-catching son of Dream Ahead lined-up for just his second race start in the 1000-metre assignment before going on to score in good style after racing just behind the pace until the top of the straight.
Ridden with confidence down the home-stretch, Generalissimo
did just enough to win by a narrow margin but appeared to have a good bit still
in reserve.
Generalissimo is the second very promising 3-year-old winner for Dream Ahead within the first couple of weeks of the new racing season. A recent Echuca program in Victoria also witnessed the flawless debut success of Ken's Dream over the same distance.
The
Darren Weir-trained colt scored by no less than nine-lengths on that occasion
and is next expected to start in Saturday's Listed MVRC McKenzie Stakes (1200m)
at Moonee Valley.
Significantly, Generalissimo is the second notable local winner for Dream Ahead to be produced by a daughter of Redoute's Choice.
Thursday's Hawkesbury winner is bred on the same cross as theEmirates Park shuttle stallion's 2-year-old Group-placegetter Dreams Aplenty, the very promising Queensland-trained galloper currently being set for a Melbourne Spring Carnival campaign with the Group 1 VRC Danehill Stakes (1200m) as his major target.
