Derby Prospect for High Chaparral

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 17
Exciting prospect Highlad took a winning step toward a possible Melbourne spring campaign with a successful debut over 1200 metres at Avondale on Wednesday.

Highlad - Kenton Wright"He covered a fair bit of ground in the run so it was a very good effort," said Andrew Forsman, who trains the three year-old son of High Chaparral (IRE) with Murray Baker.

"He still did a bit wrong and I think he beat some handy horses.

"Right from when he was an autumn two-year-old we've had the VRC Derby in mind so we'll see how he goes in his next two or three starts and we'll try and get him there if we can."

Out of the stakes winning mare My Lady's Chamber, Highlad was an $80,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Lomar Park draft for Colm Santry Bloodstock that was then re-offered at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale by Coolmore where he was snapped up for $90,000 by Paul Moroney Bloodstock.

Highlad is raced by long-time stable client Scott Richardson.

Murray Baker is no stranger to success with the High Chaparral breed having trained his Champion 3YO and Australian Derby hero Dundeel.
