As
the winner of over $3million in prizemoney with highlight victories in three of
the hardest sprint mile Group I events – Doncaster, All Aged and Stradbroke – Private
Steer was the star mare of her time, but is sadly no longer with us.
She featured at Pakenham on Tuesday when her three year-old More Than Ready
(USA) filly Clockwork Orange broke the ice to win over 1200 metres as a short
priced favourite.
Prepared by the Hayes Dabernig partnership, Clockwork Orange was not beaten far
in three previous runs, two in stakes company and can no doubt win more races.
Retained to race by Fairway Thoroughbreds after passing in at Inglis Easter shy
of her $240,000 reserve, Clockwork Orange has been entered for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and is the fourth winner from five foals
to race from Private Steer, who died at the start of this year.
Her final two foals are a Pierro two year-old filly called Satellites and a
yearling colt by Sebring.
