First Foal for NZ Two Thousand Guineas Winner Atlante

Media Release - Tuesday August 16
The wait is over, Mapperley Stud are thrilled to welcome the very first foal by Two Thousand Guineas winning resident stallion Atlante (Fastnet Rock).

Stamped with all the quality attributes of his sire, the strong and well-muscled colt is out of the Stakes producing Thunder Gulch mare Shades of Silk. Having already produced Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes winner in Show Boy, Shades of Silk is a resident mare at Mapperley and has a very smart filly by He's Remarkable entered for the 2017 NZB yearling sale.

"He's a lovely strong and well conformed foal and is exactly what you would expect from a son of Atlante. Atlante himself is a stunning looking individual and is the product of two super sires Fastnet Rock and More Than Ready. He has been fortunate to inherit all the best attributes of both stallions and we look forward to seeing that quality come through in the rest of his foals," Simms Davison, Mapperley Stud.

A genuine Group 1 horse and a versatile sprinter-miler, Atlante has an impressive resume. He cumulated Stakes wins in both New Zealand and Australia and won the GR 1 Two Thousand Guineas before heading to Australia where he defeated dual Group 1 winners Trust in a Gust and Lucky Hussler in the Chandler MacLeod Stakes (1200m).

Atlante will stand his second season at Mapperley Stud at a service fee of NZ$7,000 plus gst.
