After the disappointment of Golden Slipper winner Capitalist missing a place in the Group III San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill, trainers Peter and Paul Snowden did not have to wait long for some much better news, which came courtesy of the Snitzel colt Russian Revolution, who kept his record at a perfect three for three in Saturday's $150,000 Group III KS Environmental Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.
Capitalist and Russian Revolution have several of the same owners including Newgate Farm.
Racing in the colours of the China Horse Club, Russian Revolution was making his seasonal debut following wins at Randwick and Canterbury.
Ridden by Mark Zahra, the son of Snitzel hit the lead at the top of the straight and defied all challengers led by the fast finishing Highland Beat (Exceed and Excel) by a long neck with Hardham (Redoute's Choice) coming from the tail of the field to finish a short head back in third. Stable representative Jackson Beers said the winner has class and courage.
"It was a tough win. He still learning his trade and had to do it out there on his own," Beers said.
"They looked they had their chance to run him down but couldn't get him.
"He's only had three starts but he's a lovely colt and he's got plenty of ability."
A $320,000 purchase by China Horse Club / Michael Wallace Bloodstock from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2015 Inglis Easter Yearling sale, Russian Revolution is the fourth foal and fourth winner out of the imported Stravinsky mare Ballet D'Amour (USA).
