One to Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 10
When you're by Melbourne Cup winner Shocking from a daughter of High Chaparral (IRE) it's hard not to be dreaming of Cups.

shockingPreviously trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman in New Zealand, lightly raced four year-old Antonio Giuseppe scored a length and a quarter win at his second start for his new trainer over 1550 metres at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Antonio Giuseppe carried 59kg in the Benchmark 67 event and appeals as the type of young stayer that could easily work through the grades quickly this spring and in case he does just that, connections have him entered for the Group I MRC Caulfield Cup.

A $97,500 purchase from the NZB Select Yearling Sale for Phil Cataldo Bloodstock from the Beltana draft, Antonio Giuseppe runs for long time stable client Tony Muollo.

He is the first foal of Crystalcowgirl, a three-quarter sister by High Chaparral to Group II City of Auckland Cup winner Highflying.

Rich Hill Stud based Shocking has made a pleasing start to his stud career and has already sired a New Zealand Oaks winner in Fanatic with Antonio Giuseppe poised to further his success.
