Regally
bred Lonhro filly Precautions was a Breednet 'One to Watch' when scoring on debut
at Wyong last month and scored a tenacious victory at Canterbury on Wednesday
in tougher grade to keep her unbeaten record intact.
The John O'Shea trained filly proved too strong for the favourite Overstep,
forging clear to win the 1250 metre sprint by more than a length.
"She's a real little professional and tough as nails which she showed today,"
said stable representative Darren Beadman.
"She's only little, but has plenty of determination like her Dad."
A homebred for Darley, Precautions is entered for the Group I MRC Thousand
Guineas and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Knoydart from Group I STC
Coolmore Classic winner Regal Cheer.
Regal Cheer was bought off the track as a broodmare by Darley back in 2007 for
$900,000 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale and has produced five foals to race and
all have won.
Regal Cheer has a Sepoy weanling filly, but unfortunately missed to Brazen Beau
last year.
Godolphin made it a winning double in the next race with lightly raced four
year-old Exceed and Excel gelding Chetwood scoring easily at his first run back
from a break.
With two wins from four starts, Chetwood has a bright future, but there is no
rush to push quickly into stakes company.
"He's got a bit stronger this time. He'll go through his grades now and I
think he will be really suited when he gets to Rosehill over a little bit
further and can get into a nice rhythm," O'Shea said.
