Sebring gelding Wu Gok appreciated a step up in distance to score a dominant
win at Canterbury on Wednesday for the powerful Chris Waller stable.
Fifth and fourth in maiden events at Newcastle last month, Wu Gok found the
1550 metres at Canterbury very much to his liking.
He travelled well just behind the leaders for Tye Angland and powered away in
the straight to win by two lengths.
"As these two year-olds turn three and start stepping up in distance they can
improve rapidly," said Chris Waller.
"You'd say he's a 'work in progress'."
A $120,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Anton Koolman Bloodstock/Hermitage Thoroughbreds, Wu Gok is the first foal of stakes-placed Redoute's Choice mare
Lipari, a daughter of Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Tully Thunder.
It's a high class family, whose star members frequently excel from age three
and beyond over distances that range from a mile to the classic 2400 metres, so
Wu Gok may be well worth following.
