The
first session of the 2016 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga August Yearling Sale has concluded
with the top price of $950,000 paid for a colt by American Pharoah's sire
Pioneerof the Nile from Ocean Goddess.
A half-brother to Grade III winner Ocean Knight, the colt was consigned by
Gainesway and bought by a partnership of Stonestreet Stables and MV Magnier.
Top filly at $800,000 was the half-sister by Ghostzapper to current Champion
Filly Songbird that was bought by Tom Haughey's PTK Racing.
"She was great-looking and wellbred, and she's a half to
Songbird," Haughey said.
"My daughter and my trainer and I
all looked at her and we all loved her."
Songbird was bought from this sale in 2014 for $400,000 and has won nine races
and $2.4 million in prizemoney.
China Horse Club were the most active buyer securing five yearlings for
$2.3million, their purchases headed up by a $750,000 Tapit colt from Fashion
Cat.
Interesting to see Australian based Jadeskye Racing on the buyer's list securing
a Scat Daddy filly from Me And Miss Jones for $285,000.
A total of 73 yearlings were sold for $21,215,000 at an average $290,616,
figures down slightly on the corresponding session last year.
