Sacred Elixir's commanding success in Australia's final Group One two-year-old race of the season, the J J Atkins Stakes in Brisbane, saw him crowned New Zealand's Champion 2YO for 2015/16 at the Horse Of The year Awards dinner in Auckland on Sunday night.
An imposing individual, Sacred Elixir was bred by Hawke's Bay breeder Graham De Gruchy and is trained by Tony Pike at Cambridge for Raffles Racing whose representative Bruce Sherwin noted:
"He's a horse who ticks all the boxes - he's a lovely type with a high cruising speed and a great turn of foot. He's very exciting".
Sacred Elixir's Group One Carnival targets this Spring include the Caulfield Guineas, Victoria Derby and potentially the Cox Plate.
Sacred Elixir comes from the first southern hemisphere crop of the brilliant English Derby winner Pour Moi who like sire sensation Tavistock, is a son of champion sire Montjeu (Sadler's Wells).
Bred on the same cross as Dewar Award winning sire High Chaparral, Pour Moi was the only freshman sire in Australasia to sire a Group One winner last season and he shuttles from Coolmore, Ireland to Windsor Park, Cambridge where he will stand for a fee of $17,500 + GST in 2016
