Tycoon's white hot form of last season has continued into the new racing year
with Tycoon Tara winning the Group II (1200m) Missile Stakes at Randwick at the
weekend.
The six-year-old mare, making her debut for top Sydney trainers Peter and Paul
Snowden, defeated a small but class field and held off a late challenge on the
line from one of the country's best sprinters Rebel Dane.
"She was very brave. You could see the flag going up about 100 (metres)
out – it's very taxing today – but she put her hand up and had a good crack,"
said trainer Peter Snowden.
Relishing the heavy 10 conditions the former Victorian trained mare, has
prolonged her racing career and won't be heading to the breeding barn just yet.
The Snowdens are currently weighing up options and have considered running her
in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) at Randwick on August 20.
"We'll probably head to the Toy Show next and from there we'll just see what
happens," he said.
"She's got seven-furlong form and the Golden Pendant is a good race for
her as well so there are plenty of options. Getting her winning was important
today and she's done that."
Woodside Park Stud's Bloodstock and Sales Manager Matt Tillett said the win of
Tycoon Tara is another feather in Written Tycoon's cap.
"He is getting winners at all ages and stages right across Australia and this
shows his versatility as a stallion. It is very exciting to see the enormous
success that he had last season continue," Tilllett said.
Tycoon Tara's stablemate Capitalist, also by Written Tycoon, was a notable
absentee in last Saturday's Missile Stakes. Connections scratched last season's
champion two-year-old on the eve of the race due to the heavy track conditions.
Written Tycoon's biggest flag bearer is now expected to resume in this
Saturday's Group III San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.
