New TBQA Committee

Media Release - Sunday August 7

There's been some changes to the TBQA committee, as part of our annual election commitments. Each committee member is up for re-election after serving three years.

This term, Gary Turkington decided not to re-contest his position.

Gary has been one of the longest serving members on the TBQA committee, volunteering for over 35 years.

After careful consideration, and with some reluctance, Mary Lee Trivett has decided to resign. Mary Lee is downsizing operations at Banchory, is spending considerable time travelling to see family, and is currently tending to some health issues.

Ray Plant and Mike Kelly with President Basil NolanAlthough Mary Lee has only served on the committee for four years, her input has been very valuable, and she was our Treasurer for the past twelve months.

Both Gary and Mary Lee will be greatly missed and we wish them well with their future endeavours.

We will be welcoming two new committee members; Mike Kelly and Ray Plant.

Ray Plant, is a boiler maker by trade, and a hobby breeder and owns a number of racehorses. Ray has been an active member of the TBQA for a few years now, attending the AGM's and forwarding ideas and suggestions on various issues whenever we have asked for member input.

Mike Kelly is a former RQ Board member, we have worked closely with Mike in the past, and he will no doubt be a great asset to the TBQA.

Mike is a Public Accountant (FCPA) with 35 years experience, holding degrees in Accounting and Economics.

Mike has a very wide experience in the thoroughbred industry from bookmakers clerk to owner, breeder, and 26 years in club administration. He was appointed Deputy Chair of the Racing Queensland Thoroughbred Board in May 2013.

Both Mike and Ray sought election to the Board through their own initiative, and are excited to contribute to the industry via the committee.
